Welcome! ...to the official web site of the I.D.S.B.A.
An association created to help serve the needs of Dorper Sheep breeders and enthusiasts - thereby helping the Dorper Sheep Industry as a whole. Be sure to visit the various pages throughout this site to learn more about Dorper Sheep and the I.D.S.B.A.

About the I.D.S.B.A…

The I.D.S.B.A. was founded July 2005 by breeders - for breeders, who felt there was a need for an association where the needs of Dorper breeders and enthusiasts could be met and served. To provide registration services with very reasonable fees - without penalties or late charges. In addition, to make available avenues thru which members could market their sheep; as well as provide various services and programs that would benefit all members.

Regarding our registry services…

We realized that there are a lot of sheep not being registered – some due to paperwork upkeep, but mostly due to the cost of registration. Enter the I.D.S.B.A.! This is one of the goals of this newly formed association: To offer registration services at reasonable and affordable fees: 50% and 75% ewes at $5.00 each; Purebred ewes (88% and higher) and Purebred rams (94% and higher) at $7.00 each; Fullbloods, both rams and ewes, at $10.00 each. *Along with NO Late Fees, NO Penalties, and NO Age Discrimination!

Dear I.D.S.B.A. members,

We wanted to take this opportunity to say “Thank you” for being a part of the International Dorper Sheep Breeders’ Association. We have approximately 250 members, and are receiving new membership applications every week. We are very excited about the growth of the I.D.S.B.A.!

Remember too, that the I.D.S.B.A. welcomes contribution from every member - send in your comments, ideas, thoughts, articles, etc.

Importance of Dorper Sheep

Dorper Sheep have had a tremendous impact on the sheep industry here in Texas. In the 50’s the Brahma bull provided the American cattleman with heterosis = “hybrid-vigor.”

In 1993, Boer Goats became available and gave goat ranchers hybrid-vigor (there are very few Spanish goats now.)

Dorper Sheep are so far removed genetically from any sheep breeds here in North America, that “hybrid-vigor” will express itself in the F1 cross.

New Marketing Service announced...

One of the most frequently asked questions of our members is, “How do I market my sheep?” To help meet that challenge, we are offering an advertising opportunity to our loyal/active members:

We will build you a web page within this site (www.DiscoverDorpers.com) - this is your page to provide the information and photographs that best describes your sheep to potential customers, such as: sheep that are for sale, your contact information and location, etc. Your web page may contain any combination of text and photos.

Your site name will appear as (example): www.DiscoverDorpers.com/yournamechoicehere.htm

And since it will be part of this, the official I.D.S.B.A. web site, you will be able to take advantage of our National/Global marketing campaign: Your page will be available to 100’s of viewers! This service is available at *no charge to current members in good standing. (*For more information on this “Marketing Tool," please contact the office at 254-485-1469 or discoverdoropers@mac.com.)
