Your Title Tag and Internet Marketing
SEO and Your Title Tag
If you are doing on-page search engine optimization, there are a number of valuable tweaks that can make to your website to enhance your search rankings.
The first is to optimize your <title> tag. Now, this title tag is seen from at least three vantage points: a user in their web browser, the developer who writes the html code for your web page, and search engines. Each one views and uses the title tag differently.
From a user’s viewpoint, the title tag is the web page title that appears in the blue bar across the top of your browser window (the window’s title bar). It allows a user, looking at your site through a web browser, to see what the page they are looking at is all about.
From the developer’s standpoint, the title tag is a tag that is nested in the <head> section of their web page. It is where they type the contents of the title, using their skill to craft a search-friendly phrase.
From the search engine’s viewpoint, the title tag is used to understand what the page is all about. Google actually will use your page title as the link in the results frequently so it is important to use great skill to craft this.
So, what are good practices to follow in creating your title tag.
1. Limit your title’s length to 65 characters. This satisfies Google’s length limits and works for all other search engines, who have longer length limits.
2. Use targeted keywords that are related to your web page’s content.
3. Remember to not use the same page title for every page on your website. Web page tools will create all your web pages with the same title, for instance.
4. Try not to repeat any keywords as this may be treated as spam.
5. If you are using your company name, insert it after using your key phrase(s). Separate it from the keywords with a divider symbol; the pipe ( | ) symbol is a good one to use.
6. Use marketing language to make your title motivate your customer to take an action.
The Benefits of Taking a Local Business Online

Though scores of businesses both large and small have opted to create an online presence, there are still many companies and organizations that have strayed from joining the ranks of online commerce and the creation of impressions, either out of a sheer disinterest, or because of uncertainties about the potential benefits of bringing a local business to the platform of the internet. While a small shop in Austin Texas may not readily see the advantage of establishing a website, there are many benefits that can be gained whether a company plans on operating on a larger scale or desires to keep its functionality within a set geographic radius. From creating a powerful brand and reaching new audiences to offering convenience to current and future customers, the benefits of taking a local business online can have a profound impact on overall success.
Businesses which operate within a small local market may well be aware of the power of a solid branding campaign, but may be limited to working with such campaigns within their own locations. Reaching audiences through a variety of mediums, such as print, radio, television, and throughout the business establishment itself, companies can create graphic and text-based information that signals potential customers about the quality and personality of the company itself. But such efforts can also be taken online, where there is ample space for creating meaningful impressions through branding. When a site is developed for a company, a consideration of existing design elements is typically involved, allowing “real world” branding campaigns to gain extra breadth and efficacy. As potential customers find and enjoy the site online, the branding elements can serve as a meaningful way to reinforce positive ideas about the brand.
Many companies may offer a service or product that can be sold online, but it’s not always the case that a local business venturing into the world of internet marketing will want to begin the process of taking payments or shipping out items on the web. Transforming a local business’ operational structure isn’t necessary in order to take it online, however; not all companies engage in commerce over the web. Businesses can simply purchase a web property that describes the company and its team, and which offers other useful information to visitors, such as a physical location and contact information. When web-savvy customers find a business’ site online, they are likely to feel more confident about their patronage.
Developing internet advertising campaigns to draw a greater number of visitors to the site can also result in increased profits for the company, a goal that is often best carried out with the assistance of a media solutions firm. Though going online with a local business may seem irrelevant to some business owners and project managers at first, companies are bound to eventually come to understand –and experience– the great potential for a wide range of benefits by embracing the world of business online.
